Manager of Loss, Grief and Bereavement Programs

Huron Hospice is located on a tranquil rural estate just west of Clinton, Ontario. The four-bed residence is staffed around the clock by an RN and RPN with further support provided twelve hours daily to residents and their families by welcoming volunteers. Huron Hospice also provides supports to residents in the community of Huron County through hospice home visits and grief recovery groups. We are looking for a positive, energetic and compassionate leader to join our team. The Manager of Loss, Grief and Bereavement Programs is a 20-hour a week position based from a home office.

The Manager of Loss, Grief and Bereavement is responsible for providing grief support to the residents of Huron County. This service may be in the form of individual or small group support. It requires the manager to respond to referrals that are made to Huron Hospice by completing assessments of the clients and determining the best way to meet their needs. This role requires the manager to work in collaboration with the other managers of Huron Hospice. The Manager of Loss, Grief and Bereavement is also responsible for working with community partners to assess and respond to the needs of the residents of the county and develop programming to meet these needs. Services are provided through community groups, school groups, individual sessions and, as appropriate, referrals to other community resources.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Essential Qualifications

- Certificate in Loss, Grief and Bereavement or equivalent
- Designation in social work or counselling preferred
- Experience providing individual and group grief and bereavement support
- Grief Recovery Method Program Facilitator certificate or commitment to complete certificate within six months of hire (at cost to employer)
- Minimum 3 years of Hospice or Palliative Care experience preferred
- Management experience including, but not limited to, leadership, administration, supervision of staff or volunteers, program development/evaluation, risk management, health & safety preferred
- Awareness of current trends and best practices in loss, grief and bereavement

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Loss, Grief and Bereavement Programs has these key responsibilities:

Program Development/Coordination of Services

• Develop and implement Dealing with Loss support groups and provide appropriate resources to meet the needs of the Huron County community
• Coordinate registration of participants in all loss, grief and bereavement groups and programs
• Ensure qualified individuals facilitate grief support groups and programs and provide supervision to those individuals
• Work with community partners to expand existing Hospice/Palliative Care and Dealing With Loss programs and identify the need for new programs to meet identified gaps in service based on client needs
• Participate in community health planning and identify opportunities for partnerships

Quality Control

• Support the development of a quality improvement program to identify and monitor quality indicators
• Ensure compliance with:
o Hospice Palliative Care Ontario Standards
o Hospice/Palliative Care Best Practices
o LHIN/Ontario Health Team reporting requirements
o The Grief Recovery Institute
• Monitor client care within the bereavement support programs
• Identify adequate resources for programs
• Be responsive to client concerns, complaints & compliments through satisfaction surveys and by other means
• Create files for general operations, records and statistics as required
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality and protect operations by monitoring confidential information processing
• Operate in compliance with Public Health, Ministry of Labour and Occupational Health and Safety Act

Financial Management

• Provide input to Executive Director for annual operating and capital budget preparation.
• Manage available financial resources in a prudent and responsible manner recognizing financial resource realities

Administration

• Ensure policy and procedures are in place and followed to support community loss, grief and bereavement programs and support groups including defined referral processes
• Collect statistical data related to support programs when appropriate
• Participate in the implementation of the strategic plan
• Participate in monthly management team meetings

Other

• Valid Driver’s License, use of reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel (travel expenses reimbursed as per Huron Hospice policy)
