Unit Attendant - Relief Opportunities!

Forming part of a multi-disciplinary team, complementing other members of team in providing optimal care to patients; the Unit Attendant is responsible to in the provision of direct and indirect care to patients on the Acute Adult/Pediatrics/Maternity and the Medical/Surgical units.

Position Responsibilities

  • Adheres to and supports hospital and patient care policies and procedures.
  • Responds to all Codes
  • Ability to prioritize workload
  • Assists with baths, shaving, whirlpool baths, sitz baths, peri-care, turning and positioning.
  • Assists in transfer of patients of varying weights and degrees of independence in and out of beds, bathtubs, chairs, etc., using NLWAD (no lift without assistive device).
  • Assists in portering of patients as assigned by manager/hospital supervisor.
  • Assists in behavior management of potentially violent patients providing, 1:1 when needed
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, encouraging independent behavior, when appropriate.
  • Provides care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and the therapeutic environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by unit manager.

 

 Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Personal Support Worker Certificate an asset.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Demonstrated experience (within 2 years) working with persons with health care needs.
  • Current Certification in BCLS and demonstrated ongoing competence through annual re-certification
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job (reaching, bending, lifting heavy objects on a repetitive basis).
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention training or willing to acquire an asset.
  • Reliable attendance record.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Tours:   Area of duty may vary according to patient care needs. May consist of Days, and Evenings, 7.5 hrs (subject to change as per operational requirements)

Starting Salary: As per the CUPE 822 Collective Agreement
